With over 1700 nominations and 12 years running, Front Yards in Bloom is taking curb appeal to the next level.
Neighbours celebrating neighbours
Front Yards in Bloom is a chance for anyone to congratulate the gardeners who are making Edmonton beautiful, one front yard at a time. We can’t give the top prize to every address but we can thank them for the beauty they bring to the neighborhood.
Over 150 volunteers band together at the beginning of July every year to make sure each and every nominated address gets recognized. All nominated yards get a yellow sign in the front garden. Each homeowner receives a certificate of nomination thanking them for their wonderful contribution to the community.
Now Front Yards in Bloom is not about perfect petunias or lawns like golf greens. Its all about curb appeal – gardens that make our streets feel welcoming and safe. The kind of yard that makes people want to live, work, and even buy in a neighbourhood.
Why this program is a winner
Our success isn’t measured by the number of nominations or number of volunteers. Front Yards in Bloom is about congratulating gardeners that make our city more beautiful. These comments from nominators show how Front Yards in Bloom makes Edmonton a better place to live and grow…
“This corner house joyfully brightens not only its own front yard and street, but gives the entire neighborhood an inviting welcome.” |
"This townhouse is located in the heart of the city. It is the gem of the neighborhood. The beautiful planters, perennials, and shrubs makes this front yard visually stunning."
"Gary moved into the neighborhood about six years ago, and his enthusiasm for gardening has rubbed off in our street. He started into his front yard and four neighbors followed suit.”
Partnerships make this program flourish
The Front Yards in Bloom program is a partnership between the Edmonton Horticultural Society, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the City of Edmonton. Expertise and volunteer support is happily received from the Edmonton Naturalization Group, Sustainable Food Edmonton and the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues. In 2012, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton became the official program sponsor.
